The Chennai Metro is a rapid transit system serving the bustling city of Chennai, India. Managed by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), a collaboration between the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu, the network consists of two extensive lines covering 54.1 km (33.6 mi) with 41 stations, both underground and elevated.
The planning for this ambitious project began in 2007-08, with construction starting in February 2009. Following rigorous testing in 2014, the first section of the Green Line between Alandur and Koyambedu started operations on 29 June 2015. The Blue Line between Chennai Airport and Little Mount began on 21 September 2016.
The completion of the underground segment from AG-DMS to Washermanpet on the Blue Line on 10 February 2019 marked the end of phase 1. The Chennai Metro continues to evolve, providing efficient and modern transportation solutions to the city's residents and visitors.
